Ahhhh…Everyone seems to be upbeat and anxious to grab his and her very own iPad, the latest from Apple. It’s always exciting to take that lead in the ever changing and fast paced technology. Now that Apple is releasing this, well, all Apple fans can’t sleep anymore for the release of this newest product from the leading company here in the US.
Watching the video on www.apple.com (http://www.apple.com/ipad/features/) i am fascinated with how it looks and how it seems to feel in your hands and lap. Seriously, it’s fancy to look at. I am imagining myself now sipping my hot house blend coffee at Cafe Flore in the Castro with my iPad on the table while getting those oggling eyes around me. It would be a shame not to flaunt this new technology around my own community. “Those envious eyes, finally.”
Let’s go back to reality. It’s not been released yet but I do have some points that I want to say about this product.
I remember when Air Mac was released. Everyone drooled over the idea that you can put Air Mac under a brown envelope. That’s how thin it was. Yet, the product really never took off. Instead other Apple laptops made more sales than this at least based on what I’ve seen around me and on TV. (smiles)
Ok. Now this iPad. I am an iPod Touch owner and I can’t believe that this is such a great upgrade. This is so much better in terms of size whenever I surf the internet with the iPod Touch. The iPad is perfect for a vision-challenged person. It’s like buying the jumbo TV remote control device. I have an aunt who has diabetes and I had to give one jumbo remote for her convenience.
This “jumbo” iPod Touch now called iPad is so wonderful that it provides the same applications and services that an iPod Touch has: laptop size touch screen keypads, bigger and wider screen for your movies, youtube videos, and web surfing. Again, all these features you can do with your handy iPod Touch.
I know that the iPod Touch users can understand what I want to say here.
Hold on, there’s one good thing about this new product. I was actually hoping that there will be a version of an iPod Touch that can carry my mobile provider’s 3G and Data Plan services so that I can bring my iPod Touch anywhere and use the Internet even without a WiFi connection.
I am not an iPhone user for obvious reason that it costs more to subscribe but this iPad is an answer to my prayers. The iPad has a sim card slot where I can slip my phone sim card to be able to get Internet connection. Don’t mistaken the iPad for a phone though. As far as the website tells us, it doesn’t have the phone features except for the use of the 3G and EDGE connection through your sim. So, does this mean if someone calls me and my sim is in the iPad, I won’t be able to get the call?
The iPad is big hence I can’t put that in my pocket, can I? (smiles)
For people who think that the iPad is an alternative to a laptop where you can upload and install any applications you find on the web, I don’t think this is the right gadget for that. It does however provide downloads for applications you find in the App Store. Again, similar to iPhone/iPod Touch.
Lastly, this iPad only provides up to 64 gig of internal hard disk capacity. So, just like an iPod or iPod Touch you will be limited to what you can store in this new gadget, for now.
An update on this…so steve jobs and crew presented this today. From the forum, we learned that the iPad actually only accepts this GSM MicroSim card and one has to subscribe to AT&T for data plans from $14 to $29 per month. Moreover, this iPad can’t do multitasking so one has to open and close applications. To top this all it offers a keyboard dock. How nifty?
‘Don’t think so. Thus, added bulk to your bag. You think you can work in a cafe with that style? Na-ah…Some softwares can be installed e.g. iWorks for a fee of course…
If you ask me if I want one, well, I sure do. I want to change my first impression on this new Apple product for sure.
The price for now differs if you want the 3G connection or just the simple one. It ranges from $429 dollars (16gb-no 3G) to $829 (64gb w/3G).
